Lupus (SLE) Reality
This blog will tell you the story of all
my chronic illnesses and the medical
fallout from childhood to middle age.
Systemic lupus erythematosus, referred to as SLE or lupus, is a chronic disease that causes systemic inflammation which affects multiple organs. This is the disease that has impacted much of my body and caused most of my other issues.
When you have lupus, your immune system will start to attack your body’s own tissues. It attacks the tissues differently in every person which can make it difficult for doctors to diagnose.
- There is no specific blood test to check for lupus.
- There are a group of blood tests that can be combined with physical findings to come to a diagnosis.
- The symptoms of lupus can come and go, called periods of flares and remission.
- Lupus can affect any of these systems of the body:
